Whether your children are heading back to school, you’re taking a long-awaited trip, or you simply want to be up-to-date with your health, it’s important to make sure that you and your loved ones are properly vaccinated. After all, vaccines can help you stay safe and healthy by helping you dodge many devastating diseases, all of which can be prevented with the proper immunizations.
Are your kids heading back to school? Many schools will require students under the age of 18 to have immunizations depending on their age, medical conditions, any risk factors, and other situations. These immunizations can include one or a combination of vaccines, including influenza, polio, chickenpox, measles/mumps/rubella (MMR), meningitis, and tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap). Be sure to ask the school and your physician which immunizations are needed for your children this year to keep them protected and up-to-date!
Adults can receive a wide array of immunizations depending on a few factors. For those who are traveling out of the country, immunizations are available for a large range of diseases including yellow fever, typhoid, Hepatitis A and B, and many others. We can also give medication to prevent illnesses such as malaria and travelers’ diarrhea with a medical prescription. For those who turn 60 years old, you should get a shingles (Zoster) vaccination, even if you’ve experienced shingles in the past. Additionally, if you turn 65 this year, you may need a pneumococcal vaccination both this year and next year to fight against this disease.
Even though it’s still summer, it’s always smart to start preparing for the impending flu season! The best way to protect yourself against the flu is by getting an influenza vaccine (a.k.a. the flu shot). The flu shot is recommended for everyone over the age of 6 months and can be received every year. Talk to your physician or one of our pharmacists to see which immunization is right for you! We offer flu shots 7 days a week to anyone over 12 years of age.
